Employee Welfare
Mission
The mission of Employee Welfare is to provide service to agency employees and provide guidance to upper management and employees in the functional areas.
Employee Welfare consists of five functional areas:
Insurance & Benefits
The Insurance & Benefits program area provides reception services for HR headquarters and administers the various Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) benefits in coordination with the Employees Retirement System of Texas and plan administrators, to include a comprehensive health, dental, and prescription drug program; TexFlex programs; retirement; Texa$aver 401(k) and 457 Plans; and TDCJ’s Wellness Initiative Now (WIN) program.
Leaves
The Leaves program area assists employees with workers' compensation; return to work program; family and medical leave; sick leave pool; leave without pay; leave with pay; military leaves processing and coordinates the employee service awards program.
Time Keying
The Time Keying area is responsible for receiving the time from the various units and departments and ensuring the time is accurately reported. In addition, this area will ensure all payroll status changes are processed to ensure employees receive their accurate pay records and process any time adjustments necessary to correct errors.
Accommodations
The Accommodations area provides guidance to employees and agency staff on requests for accommodations due to a permanent medical condition, pregnancy related issues, and religious beliefs.
Unemployment
The Unemployment area provides the necessary paperwork to the Texas Workforce Commission in response to unemployment claims filed by current and former employees, as well as fraudulent claims.
