Tropical Storm Nicholas Advisory

A hurricane watch has been issued for Matagorda Bay to Freeport with anticipated landfall this evening. Tropical storm warnings have been issued for the Southwest Texas coast, Fort Bend County, and Wharton County.

Flash flood watches have expanded north to include Bellville, Conroe, and Cleveland. The storm is expected to travel towards the Houston Metro and Montgomery County region by midday, Tuesday.

Rainfall rates of 3 to 4 inches per hour are likely as bands of rain move into the area, mainly south of the I-10 corridor.

The agency continues to closely monitor the storm.

Current models and satellite imagery suggest Tropical Storm Nicholas may impact Texas between midnight tonight and early afternoon, Monday. Tropical Storm Warnings and Storm Surge Watches are in effect along the Cameron-Kenedy County coast. Strong winds and minor rainfall flooding are expected. While it is not expected that any TDCJ unit will be negatively impacted, the agency is closely monitoring the storm.
