2025 Victim Impact Statement Revision Committee

by Alex Judd, Training and Development Specialist IV, Texas Crime Victim Clearinghouse

Upon conclusion of the 89th Regular Legislative Session, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Victim Services Division (VSD) hosted the biennial Victim Impact Statement (VIS) Revision Committee to discuss updates made by Texas legislature that impact the VIS documents and victims of violent crime. The Committee consisted of members from various disciplines and organizations including the Board of Pardons and Paroles, the Community Justice Assistance Division, various District Attorney’s offices across the state, the Office of the Attorney General, the Office of the Governor, and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.

Over the course of three meetings, the Committee discussed changes made to statute and how those changes could be implemented as revisions to the VIS and other supporting documents provided to crime victims throughout Texas. Perhaps most notable was the creation of a secondary VIS option, intended to be a more approachable and easier-to-complete version for survivors. The TDCJ VSD would like to graciously thank everyone who participated on the Committee; the time and expertise each member dedicated to these meetings will have an impact on victims and survivors across the entire state.

All updated publications will be available online and as hard copies no later than December 1, 2025. Updated brochures will also go live via the Integrated Victim Services System (IVSS) and will be available for free download through this link. You must be logged into your IVSS account to place an order for physical copies.

For any questions regarding the VIS or how to request publications, you may contact the Clearinghouse at (512) 406-5931, or by e-mail at tdcj.clearinghouse@tdcj.texas.gov.
