August 5, 2026
Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s (TDCJ) Executive Director Bobby Lumpkin was elected to serve as a leader in two prestigious organizations dedicated to promoting and advancing the field of corrections.

The American Correctional Association (ACA) announced Lumpkin as the organization’s new president-elect. The ACA is the oldest association developed specifically for practitioners in the correctional profession. In his role as president-elect, Lumpkin will serve on the ACA Executive Committee and Board of Governors.
In a letter announcing the results, ACA President Ricky Dixon and Executive Director Robert Green addressed the candidates.
“The strength of our Association is built upon the engagement, professionalism, and dedication of members like you. Your participation helps shape the future of ACA and ensures that our leadership continues to reflect the voices of our membership,” they said. “Please join us in congratulating the newly elected leadership. We look forward to the vision and service they will bring as they begin their terms.”
Lumpkin ran a campaign focused on elevating best practices, investing in professional development, championing innovation, and amplifying the voices of correctional professionals everywhere.
“It is a privilege to have the opportunity to serve this outstanding association and the dedicated corrections professionals who work tirelessly every day to strengthen public safety and advance our profession.” Lumpkin said. “As president-elect, I look forward to working alongside the executive committee, the board of governors, the delegate assembly, and our members across the country as we continue advancing excellence in corrections, sharing innovative ideas, and supporting the professionals who serve our communities every day.”
In addition, four other TDCJ employees won positions during the ACA General Election to serve on various boards and committees.
- Christopher Carter, Director of TDCJ’s Chaplaincy and Volunteer Services Division, was elected to the Board of Governors.
- April Zamora, Director of TDCJ’s Rehabilitation and Reentry Division, was elected to the Board of Governors.
- Ruby Davis, Deputy Director of TDCJ’s Chaplaincy and Volunteer Services Division, was elected to the ACA Delegate Assembly.
- Myra L. Walker, RN and Chief of the Office of Professional Standards for TDCJ’s Health Services Division, was elected to the Delegate Assembly.
In the same weekend, Lumpkin also was elected as the Correctional Leaders Association’s (CLA) Vice-President. The CLA brings together the top correctional leader from all the 50 states to shape correctional policies and practices at all levels.
“I’m honored to serve as Vice President alongside an exceptional and outstanding group of CLA leaders,” Lumpkin said. “I look forward to working together to advance our profession, support correctional leaders, and strengthen the future of corrections. Let’s continue building a stronger, safer, and even more effective corrections community together.”
