Prison and Jail Operations is responsible for the confinement of adult felony and state jail inmates who are sentenced to incarceration in a secure facility. The CID Deputy Division Director oversees six regional directors responsible for the management of secure prisons, pre-release facilities, psychiatric facilities, Developmental Disabilities Program facilities, medical facilities, state jails, a privately operated multi-use facility, a geriatric facility, intermediate sanction facilities, an innovation unit, and substance abuse felony punishment facilities throughout the state of Texas. This includes the Bartlett Unit, which operates as an innovation unit for the agency and offers a new approach to programs and services designed to support successful rehabilitation and reintegration into society upon release.
