Correctional Medical Director – Director for the Health Services Division

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) is looking for the next exceptional physician to oversee correctional health care as the TDCJ Correctional Medical Director – Director for the Health Services Division.

What you’ll do:

  • Coordination and Oversight – Assure all incarcerated individuals under the supervision of TDCJ have ready access to quality, comparable to the non-incarcerated Texas resident.
  • Policies and Standards – Coordinate policies related to health care matters concerning health services, professional standards, mental health monitoring, and preventive medicine.
  • Compliance Monitoring – Monitor data regarding health services provided to individuals incarcerated in TDCJ to ensure compliance with agency policy and accreditation standards.
  • Placement and Transportation – Coordinate with the Classification and Transportation Division to schedule intake of incarcerated individuals with special needs from county jails into TDCJ.
  • Agency Health Care Representative – Serve as the TDCJ representative on the Correctional Managed Health Care Committee and on all health care matters to academic institutions, governmental agencies, private organizations, and the public.
  • Employee Program Implementation – Assists in implementing programs to enhance health of TDCJ employees.
  • Supervision – Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of others.

What we’re looking for:

We are looking for a physician executive with strong clinical expertise, strategic leadership experience and commitment to improving health care in a correctional environment.

Candidates should have:

  • A Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Valid Texas medical license.
  • Board certification in primary care (family practice, OB/GYN, internal medicine, or psychiatry).
  • Significant experience in health-care leadership and administration.
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams and complex healthcare operations.
  • A commitment to quality, accountability, innovation and ethical patient care.
